WOMEN SHOPLIFTERS

Auckland Jail Sentences By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, March 31. Two women shoplifters were sent to jail for 10 days by Mr. IV. R. McKean, S.M., when they appeared before him in the Magistrate’s Court to-day. They were Mrs. Rita Ellen Ryan, aged 29, and Mrs. Mary Ann Johnson, aged 39, and they pleaded guilty to the theft of goods valued at £l2 from 11 shops in the city on the morning of March 23. “This class of offence seems to be becoming common again,” said the magistrate in sentencing accused. “It is my duty to inflict a sentence that will act in some way as a deterrent.” A wide assortment of articles was stolen by accused.
