CROQUET NOTES

End-of-Season Gatherings ADJUSTMENTS TO HANDICAPS (By Penultimate.) The official closing of the Wellington Croquet Club took place yesterday. The weather was beautifully fine and there was a large attendance of members. Mrs. Shelly, president of the club, presented the following prizes won during the year: A grade champion (George Cup) : Mrs. Caldow; runner-up, Mrs. D. C. Henderson. Intermediate champion (Clark Cup) : Mrs. Topp; runner-up, Mrs. Thornton. B grade champion (Wilson Cup) : Mrs. Broth; runner-up, Mrs. Brown. Handicap doubles: Mesdames Caldow and Baker; runner-up, Mesdames Billing | and Talbot. Crosby Cups: Mesdames King and Alexander. Handicap singles: A grade, Mrs. Manton ; intermediate grade, Mrs. Thornton. The Miss Anne George Cup for the most improved player for the season was won by Mrs. Bryden. Presentations were also made to Mrs. Manton (captain), Miss Schramm (secretary), and Miss Bates (treasurer). Following were the winners of competitions held during the afternoon: — Tunnel, Mrs. King; golf, Mrs. Brown; french, Mrs. Hogan; ladder. Mrs. W. H. Smith; consolation. Miss A. E. Bates; committee, Mrs. D. C. Henderson. Mrs. Shelly donated the prizes for the competitions. Island Bay Closing. The official closing of the Island Bayclub’s season took place last Saturday afternoon. There was a good attendance of members.' The early part of the afternoon was spent in competitions, which resulted as follows: Angles, Mrs. Green; french, Mrs. Coe; peg, Mrs. Francis; golf, Mrs. Shoreland; hurry-scurry, Mesdames Woodham and Barrel. At the conclusion of afternoon tea the president, Mrs. Winchcomb, presented the following trophies won during the season:— A grade champion: Mrs. Green. Intermediate champion: Mrs. Coe.

B grade champion : Mrs. Francis. Rodger Brooches: Mesdames Coe and Francis.

Association Closing Afternoon. The Wellington Croquet Association will hold a closing afternoon in the palm lounge of the Hotel St. George on Thursday, April 22, when the trophies won during the season will be presented by Sir. R. W. McCreath, Gore, president of the New Zealand Croquet Council.

Alterations to Handicaps. The following alterations to handicaps have been approved by Mrs. G. Bartlett (Dominion handicapper) :—Mrs. Ridley (Central), 3 to 2; Mrs. L. Toms (Karori), 6 to 4; Sirs. J. Sliller (Ngaroma), 54 to 4; Sirs. K. L. Barker (Woburn), 3 to 24 ; Sirs. R. G. Collins (Hataitai), 7i to 6}; Sirs. Francis (Island Bay), 7 to 64; Mrs. August (Woburn), 7 to 64.

Kelbum Championship Doubles. The championship doubles of the Kelburn club have now been concluded, and have been won by Mesdames Chetwin and Watkin, with the Rev. Sir. Tye and Sirs. Rolfe runners-up.

Karori Club Party. An enjoyable party was recently held by members of the Karori Croquet Club in honour of Sirs. L. Toms, who won the intermediate champion of champions event and the level singles, second grade, at the recent Wellington tournament. Earlier in the season Sirs. Toms also took part in the McKenzie Cups competition, having, with her partner, held them for eight weeks. Sirs. Steel and Sirs. Harper also received congratulations on their having held the Association Ferns for a week. The day was beautifully fine. Afternoon tea was provided by the members and several competitions were held, the prize-winners being Sirs. Dryden, Mrs. Harper, Sirs. Kearney and Sirs. Tighe.

Personals. Mrs. Bedford (Seatoun) has been spending the Easter holidays at Wanganui. ‘

Mesdames Boocock and Manton (Wellington) have returned home after taking part in the gold and silver mallet comnetition at Hamilton. They also visited Rotorua and Waitomo Caves.

Mrs. Shelly (Wellington) has returned home after spending the Easter holidays at Martinborough. Mrs. A. A. Ramsay (Wellington) has returned home affer an extended visit to her son at Ohingaiti. Misses Jordon (Mt. Victoria) have returned home after an extended trip to Mount Cook and Franz Josef Glacier.
