South Auckland Challenge Abandoned Dominion Special Service. Palmerston North. March 30. The Hawke Cup cricket mutch between South Auckland and Manawatu (holders) was abandoned to-day, rain making the*wicket unfit for play. Manawatu retains the cup after withstanding 13 challenges since taking it in 1934. The side bad made 284 for eight wickets, occupying the crease all day Saturday for 243 for five, and during the 00 minutes which the weather permitted yesterday added another 41 runs for the loss of three more wickets. There was no play to-day. Manawatu will not be called upon to meet any more challenges until next season.
