South Island Tourney PLAY IN CHAMPIONSHIPS By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, March 30. 'h<- transfer of matches to hard courts after heavy rain had prevented play in the morning enabled a certain amount of p ogress to be made in the South Island championship and handicap tourney today. Most of the events have now reached the semi-finals, and it is hoped that it will be possible for finals to be played in Saturday. Results of championship events are as follows: — MEN’S DOUBLES. Quarter-finals: J. Adams and B. M. (. 'Connor beat F. H. Renouf and C. C. Treeby by default; C. Angus and I. A. Seay bent C. F. Penfold and T. IV. Patterson. 6-3, 6-3. Semi-finals: H. A. Barnett and A. R. Cant beat Adams and O'Connor, 6-4, 6-3; Angas and Seay beat J. Rich and W. G. Gerard, 6-0, 6-3. WOMEN’S DOUBLES. Quarter-final: Misses I. Morrison and S. Anderson beat Misses J. Lamont and H. Wright, 3-6, 7-5, 6-4. . Semi-final: Miss T. Poole and Mrs. E M. Peppier beat Misses M. Berry and 11. Kirby, 6-1, 6-1. .MIXED DOUBLES. Quarter-finals: J. H. W. Sheppard and Miss I. Morrison beat C. F. Penfold and Miss S. Anderson, 6-1. 6-4; J. Mercer and Miss T. Poole beat F. J. Shadbolt and Miss N. Blunden by default. Semi-final: Mercer and .Miss Poole beat L. Morris and Mrs. 11. A. Blunk, 6-0, 6-1, MEN’S JUNIOR SINGLES. Semi-final; F. H. Renouf beat J. Silvester, 9-4. Final; Renouf beat V. Jones, 4-6, 7-5, 6BOYS’ SINGLES. Semi-finals; R. T. Dnwker beat A. Donaldson (Oamaru), '6-0. 6-0. ■Mixed doubles: K. Bryan (Otago) and Miss Wilson heat C. J. Rawlinson and Mrs. Rawlinson (Otago), 6-2, 6-1.
