F>iur lots from the Elderslie Stud were included in the annual yearling sales which opened to-day. A brown coll, by Iliad from Dancing Lndy was sold to W. Henderson. Sydn.cy, for 700 guineas; a brown iilly by ‘ Iliad from Refinement, to Maekinnon and Cox, Melbourne, lor -125 guineas; a bay-colt by Night Raid from Gariiciosa, to R. Trihey, Victoria, for 550 guineas; a chestnut filly by Iliad from Lady Violet, to F. Keeley, Boorowa, for 300 guineas. . Good prices were obtained for Heroic yearlings, tlie six colts offered to-day realising 5275 guineas. Colts from Desdemona Milam and Luminos. changed hands at 1300 guineas, 1200 guineas, and 1050 guineas respectively. There was a keen demand for Veilmonds, E. J. Waft paying 700 guineas for a colt from Peeka. A Marconigrnm colt from Steady Glass realised 850 guineas. New Zealand purchases included : Baralong— Imperial colt. W. C. Ring. 120 guineas; Baralong—Torquay filly. T. R. George, 65 guineas: Simeon’s Fort— Valcria'iife colt, J. .lamesoii. Masterton, 350 guineas; Caledon —Lady Rawson filly, W. Wade, 60 guineas; Dorie —Tamarzu'nd colt, ’l’. George, 90 guineas. ONCE BOUGHT FOR £8 Trotter Who Paid Big Dividend Dominion Special Service Ha.wera, Marell 30. R. J. Laird, trainer and driver of Unworthy, who paid the sensational dividend yesterday, stated to-day that he did not participate in the win priee. It now transpires that the remaining ticket was taken out by a llawera motor mechanic who was employed on the totalisator staff. Although returned in the race book as a gelding. Unworthy is a mare, and her dam is related to the prolific Auckland matron. Kewpie. As a three-year-old Unworthy was held on lease from the breeder. Mr. W. Savage, by A. J. Corrigan, for whom she showed a lot of promise, but she developed leg trouble and was not persevered with. She was later purchased by Mr. Laird for £8 for show racing, in which department she proved a great success, being export al handling the small tracks. After her Wairarapn success Laird disposed of tlie trotter to her present owner, who a few mouths ago idaccd her witb Laird to prepare for the llawera meeting. Before being registered the mare was known as Savage, but she has raced as Unworthy. She will make her next appearance at New Plymouth on Saturday.
FEILDING J.C. PAYS £1(331 IN TAXATION Dominion Special Service. Feilding. March 30. Tin- Feilding Jockey Club, whose tolalisator receipts were up £10,523 on the two-day Easter meeting, forwarded to the Government to-day a cheque for £1634 ns taxation, which includes £2105 totalisator tax and £2303 dividend duly.
