C.J.C. FINAL DAY

Willie Win Takes Great Autumn ROYAL CHIEF AGAIN Emissary in Last Event Dominion Special Service. Cliristchurch, March 30. 'l’he Canterbury Jockey Club’s autumn meeting concluded to-day. '.rhe weather was unfavourable in the morning, heavy rain falling up to noon, but afterward the sun shone. The track was on the soft side and the attendance good considering the conditions. Tolalisator investments were >£26.240, compared with £23,616 last: year. The total for the meeting was £69,986 against £59,174 last year, an increase of £10,512. Bed Sun’s Double. ■ Bed Sun repeated his winning effort cf the first day in the Peerswiek Brush Hurdles, but won with more in hand. lie occupied a rear position for the first half of tho jouruey. but then made a fast forward move to be handy to the loaders, Hunting Bag and Brigadore, turning for home. Brigadore did not carry ou and Bed Sun passed Hunting Bag two fences from home with Polydora, Look Smart, and Monastic next. Bed Suu went right away at the last fence and ran home a very easy winner from Monastic, who wore down Brigadore in the closing stages. Polydora was two lengths back, clear of Hunting Bag and Look Smart, with Golden Lap a long way in the rear. Chokebore Stable to Fore.

The Autumn Nursery Handicap resulted in another triumph for the Chokebore stable, its three representatives filling the three places. On this occasion Sir Charles Clifford’s filly Great Bramble turned the tables on Lazybones and Mulatto.

The early leaders were Yale and Irish Fiddle, while Mulatto was slow away. Irish Fiddle had a useful lead from Yale ami Screamer entering upon the course proper with Great Bramble aud Lazybones together next and Top Bow also showing up, a sustained finish ensued aud Dish Fiddle was first to weaken. Great Bramble then sorted herself out, and. with a solid effort, went on to gain a length verdict, while Lazybones again beat Mulatto by half a length. Irish Fiddle was two lengths away, a head in front of Screamer, with Bonnie Agnes and Baldoon next. Royal Chief Easily. The withdrawals of Silver Bing and Haughty Winner left only three contestants for the Challenge Stakes, and two of them were bracketed. The pool was therefore very restricted. 'Pile trio got off as one horse and, after a few strides in line, Night. Dress shot out to make the pace, and at the halfmile was four lengths in front of Royal Chief, with Paper Slipper two lengths back. There was no change to the straight entrance, but once the run home was commenced Royal Chief, responding to his rider's call, soon had the gap reduced. and at the distance was on terms with the leader, while Paper Slipper was unable to improve his position to any extent. Royal Chief gradually drew away., and 100 yards from the post was three lengths in front, but. with victory assured, he was being eased up at the post. Night Dress was thus .able to get within a length of him, but only under sufferance. Paper Slipper was four lengths back. Favourite Wins. Dictate was made a strong favourite for the Yaldhurst. Handicap, and justified his position by a eonvinejiy; win. When the field settled down Almira and Sunbeam took charge together, and Sunbeam led into the straight from Dictate, Almira, Glenavon and Miracle. Dictate soon disposed of Sunbeam, and, beating off challenges by Glenavon tied Miracle, won wilh something in hand from Miracle. Lqstral came from well back to gain

third money from Glenavon in the last few strides. Sunbeam aud Coming Star were next.

Sovereign Lady Again.

Investors fared well in summing up the field for the Addington Handicap, as the favourite division paid the dividends. At I hl' end of two furlongs Heloise had charge from M.vriam, Orange Bud. Rohani. Sovereign I.adv and Recollection, and this was the order Io the turn, where Orange Bud went to I lie front and was first into the straight from Myriam, Sovereign l,:uly. Reeolleetiou and Bnusseau. ’['he leader did no( last long in the run home, and Sovereign Lady took her place in front with Myriam, Reeolleetiou and Chidden becoming prominent. Sovereign Lady was never in danger, and her win was one of the easiest of the day. Myriam hung on for second money from the fastfinishing Rousseau and Chidden, both of whom were slow to move oft. Willie Win Takes Big Race. Willie Win was confidently supported to win the Great Autumn Handicap, and he recorded a very decisive victory. He was in fifth place from Queen of Song. Chief Ranger, Wild Chase aud Concertpitch over the first half-mile, but. then rushed up into second place to Queen of Song, who still held command entering the straight from Willie Win and Wild Chase, with Chief Ranger, Coneertpitch and Rebel Lad handy. Willie ■Win had Queen of Song’s measure early in the run home, and then Wild Chase drew up to the favourite. A short struggle only was necessary to enable Willie Win to shake off Wild Chase and. continuing liis run without apparent effort, he did not have tn be ridden at all seriously over the final few chains. Arctic King made a fast run rounding the home turn and. challenging Wild Chaise inside the distance, wore him down to beat him for second money by a length. Coneertpitch hung on for a good fourth placing just in front of Rebel Lad, with Queen of Song, Pouty, Sunee and Chief Ranger following.

Grey Honour Finishes Well. The third choice. Grey Honour, returned to the winning list by beating a fair team of hacks in the Gimcraek Handicap. La France, Lady Kate, Violenta and Night "Wings were the most prominent on reaching the course proper, and I.a France still held command at the distance, where Grey Honour put in his claim and Night Wings appeared on the scene. Grey Honour completed his task solidly D> win by a clear lengt.li. while Night Wings got up in the last stride to beat La France for second money. There was then a gap to Silver Slipper, with Epic, Gold Cross and Violenta next. Last to Emissary. Cyrillian and Fiord disputed favouritism for the concluding event, the Templeton Handicap, but while Cyrillian tilled third place, Fiord failed to race up to expectations. Knockfin and Joyom< were most prominent coming on to the course proper with Emissary, Cyrillian and Fiord handy. Joyous weakened inside the distance aud Knockfin showed out: temporarily from Emissary, but the last-named finished too solidly aud won a great race from Knockfin. who just held off Cyrillian by a head, with a similar margin to the fast-finish-ing Metal Bird, and then heads t.o Joyous and Epris together.
