Public Service Examination I GILBY’S COLLEGE RESULTS • The director of Gilby’s College has re* • reived the results of examinations con- [ ducted by the Public Service Commissioner’s oilice in November. r *he requirements of the tesL are as under: —Special grade: 11) Taking down matter in shorthand dictated for five minutes at a speed of 150 words a minute; (2) Typing the transcript within 1 half an hour: (3) A typewriting speed 1 test to be typed at the rate of not less I than 50 words a minute; (4i Typewriti ing from confused manuscript. Interj mediate examination : Similar to the special, except that, the dictation is ar the rate of 130 words a minute. Senior , grade: Shorthand speed, 110 words a minute, typewriting speed. 40 words a minute. Junior grade: Shorthand. SO words a minute; typewriting. 30 words a minute; a test in English is also given for the junior and senior grades. > Top places for Wellington in all four grades were gained by students attending Gilby’s College, which is the first occasion upon which this distinction has fallen to a Wellington college since the examinations commenced about 10 years ago. It has only once been equalled elsewhere. Miss Hampton, who is nor yet 16 years | of age, gained third place in New Zealand in the special grade and first place in New Zealand in the intermediate grade. Mr. J. McLean gaindu fourth place for Now Zealand in the special grade. The names of the successful Wellington district students, showing the positions gained, are as under:—Special: 1 Helen M.
