WELCOMED AT BERLIN
Australian Olympic Games Team (Received June 23, 11.50 p.rn.) Berlin, June 23. The entire German Olympic Committee received the Australian team at the railway station. Representatives of the Reichswehr and many sports clubs were also present. The'team was driven to the Town Hall and accorded a civic reception. Mr. Alderson, manager, was presented with a gold key to the city, and other members of the team were given a history of Berlin. The Australian flag was run up above the entrance to the Olympic village as the team arrived. Responding to the mayor’s welcome at an earlier civic dinner at Cologne Mr. Alderson, said that if on their return they could help convince the Commonwealth of the advisability of following ’ Germany’s magnificent lead in encouraging youth and sport a useful purpose would be served. Mr. Alderson’s speech followed the team’s visit to Cologne’s municipal playgrounds, the extent, variety and efficiency of organisation of which astonished the Australians.
