TENNIS CLUB DANCE

In keeping with the success that has characterised all the Miramar Tenuis Club activities, the fifth annual dance, held in -the Rex Hall, Kilbirnie, was a very cheerful occasion. During the evening trophies won in club events throughout the past season were presented by Mrs. 11. Townsend, who received a charming bouquet from Miss Shirley Macdonald. Ou behalf of the Wellington Lawn Tennis Association, Mr. C. G. Swinburne presented the challenge trophies to the club’s third-grade ladies’ team and to the fifth-grade combined team, which were successful in their respective grades in the interclub competitions. Cooper, referred to the approaching marriage of these two members and extended to them the club’s congratulations and best wishes. They were accorded musical honours by the assembly.

DANCE AT RONGOTAI COLLEGE

Streamers of blue, black and gold—the colours of the Rongotai College Old Boys’ Association—and clusters of multi-coloured balloons, lent a very festive air to the college gymnasium last night, when the annual dance, organised by the association as a windup to the football match played against present boys, was held. This dance is always .an eagerly-anticipttted and well-attended event, and last night’s effort was certainly no exception to the general rule, the big hall being filled with a happy throng of young people. An excellent orchestra played tuneful melodies and was kept busy responding to the many requests for encores. A much-appreciated feature was the supper that is always welcome ou so chilly a night. The host and hostess for the evening were Mr. F. Martyn Renner, principal of Rongotai College, and Mrs. Renner. and the many dancers present included old and present boys and their friends, members of the staff and of the visiting team from Foxton that also played against the old boys during the afternoon. The committee responsible for arrangements comprised: Messrs. N. -Avery, J. Leith, L. Leeks. R. Guthrie. A. Arcus, D. Haswell. D. Wilson.
