Mount Lyell Production
The Mount Lyell Mining and Railway Co., Ltd., has issued the following progress report for the fortnight ended June 10 :—North Mount Lyell: Tons extracted, 4675; 1100 ft. level, No. 38 stope rise to 48ft. through ore. Royal Tharsis: Tons extracted, 1622. West Lyell: Tons extracted, 17,767. Prince Lyell: Tons extracted, 1000. Lyell Comstock: Tons extracted, 3788. No. 4 level. No. 2 mullock pass drive, west end to 187 ft. through mineralised schist and completed. No. 8 level, main crosscut to 60ft. through lowgrade ore. Reduction works: Furnace in blast for three days of period; 7704 tons refinery anodes made during current year. Concentrator : Mill operated 334 hours and treated 27,045 tons ore, producing 2054 tons concentrates. Copper refinery: Tank house in operation throughout fortnight, 475 tons cathode copper being produced for period. Total’ for current year, 8936 tons.
New Guinea Gold Mining
The management of Developments (New Guinea), N.L., reported yesterday that its engineers in New Guinea, after confirming their cabled report, that to date pits and bores on the dredging area down to 20 feet had averaged 1/3 a yard (gold £4/5/- per oz.), state that they have bottomed on mud rock. As the local rock outcrops were practically all limestone, there was a possibility that they had encountered n false bottom, they stated.
The development was considered important by the management* find instructions had been given to attempt to drill through the mud rock.
The field manager of Irowat Gold Alluvials N.L. reports from New Guinea that No. 1 nozzle has sluiced a large excavation, that the boxes are set up, that puroduction operations have begun at that point, and that the first elean-up is expected on June 30. No. 2 and No. 3 nozzles are sluicing to boxes, and approximately 12,000 yards have been shifted. Blowing in and cleaning up is in progress, and the results are exnected in about 10 days. No. 4 nozzle will begin operations this week. The No. 2 main pipe column is being laid to the second workings.
