PORT OF WANGANUI
Trading Aspects Discussed By Conference Dominion Special Service. Wanganui, June 8. Au important conference to consider the trade of the port of Wanganui generally, and its conservation and development, was held at Wanganui to-day, the chairman of the harbour board, Mr. AV. Morrisou, presiding over au attendance of representatives of the board, the chamber of commerce, overseas shipping owners’ committee, New Zealand Refrigerating Company, coastal shipping companies, stevedore contractors, and the Waterside Workers’ Union. The conference also gave consideration to the railage of large quantities of wool from Wanganui to Wellington aud Auckland, and discussed what steps to take to obtain this trade for the port. The present lighterage plant was also discussed. The adoption of the following resolution was advised in a statement to the Press:—“That a committee consisting of representatives of the New Zealand Refrigerating Company, stevedore contractors, overseas shipping companies and the harbour board, be set up to go into the question of lighterage facilities at the port of Wanganui.”
MATAMAU FARMERS’ UNION
Dannevirke, June 8. There was a fairly large attendance at the monthly meeting of the Matamau branch of the Farmers’ Union. The question of obtaining loading yards at M'atamau was discussed, and Mr. France, who was asked to obtain information on the matter, said he thought it was not advisable to obtain the yards, as the buyerswere now responsible for the driving and the trucking of the stock, so that it was no concern of the farmers as to where the stock was loaded. After discussion it was decided to leave the matter in abeyance.
