Laying the Shore End.-An attempt was made ysterday from the scow Kohi to lay a new shore end at Lyll Bay for one of the telegraph and telephone cables which cross cook strait. A line was floted ashore on a buoy, but it was found impossible to get the cablè end to land. In the photograph the Kohi is seen lying at anchor in the bay, with the Government steamer Janie Seddon, which assisted her further out. To the left, among the breakers, is the buoy on its way to the beach. A further attempt is to be made this morning.
