LAUNDRY WORKERS

Conciliation Proceedings Several of the minor machinery clauses of the claims put forward by the Wellington Laundry Workers, Dyers and Dry-cleaners’ Industrial Union of Workers were agreed upon it the adjourned hearing yesterday before the conciliation commissioner, Mr. S. Ritchie, but: the main proposals disputed were referred to the Court of Arbitration. The most important matters which will go to the court are hours of work, wages, holidays, overtime and a proposal that any worker who is at present receiving higher wages than provided in Hie proposed award shall not have his wages reduced. Mr. A. W. Nisbet, secretary of the Wellington Manufacturers’ Association, appeared for the employers, and Mr. F. Cornwall, secretary of the union, represented the workers. Messrs. J. W. Penman, F. L. Paul, and A. Anderson were assessors for the employers, and Mesdames E. Harrison and D. Turnbull and Mr. A. Hepplestone for the employees.
