AIRLINER IN FOG

Landing Made on Beach CARS LIGHT UP RUNWAY Sydney, March 19. The Holyman inter-State air liner Jlemma, from Melbourne, carrying two passengers, a pilot and mail, made an emergency landing in a narrow beach at Thirroul, on the south coast, last night. The aeroplane, which left Canberra at 5 p.m., ran into dense rain and fog. The pilot decided not to attempt to reach Sydney, and circled over ’hirroul until residents, realising his predicament, rushed to the beach and lit flares. About 50 ears focused their headlights on the mnd and the aeroplane made a perfect landing, stopping a few feet from the edge of the water.
