The New “Show Boat”

> “QHOW BOAT” of 1936 is certainly -- bound to be a great show. For -months it has been in production, and /with Paul Robeson, Irene Dunne, * Charles Winninger, Helen Morgan and •> Helen Westley in the leading roles be- « sides a host of other competent players '■ in support, it should be one of the outstanding musical shows in '6llll history. All the resources of the techni- » cian and the artist are going into its • production. Irene Dunne as Magnolia ' is in the part she created originally. ’ Paul Robeson as Joe is very much at > home after his years of experience ) with this role in America and England, tlt is a Universal film. Paul Robeson ; is one of the most versatile artists lin the world to-day. He knows the J, potentialities of his own voice far bet--•ter than-the Hollywood technicians do. In fact, he followed out a special routine of his own in recording experiments and showed the sound technicians that his methods were more effective than theirs. That baritone of his, which will never be forgotten as it was used in “Sanders of the River,” will again cause millions of hearts to throb in the greatest’ show in which he nas ever appeared, Edna Ferber’s classic “Show Boat.”

Colleen Moore is leaving Hollywood and, presumably, films. She will live in New York and, as soon as her divorce is made absolute, will marry John Hewlett, manager of her doll’s house.
