Owing to tin* unsatisfactory state of the Hutt lawn, the match for the King Brooches was played on the Waimarie club lawns on Monday, when Mesdaines Wright aud Corbett defeated the holders, Mesdmnes Hollard and Stonebouse (Hutt). The Hutt players found the Waimarie lav ns with their lovely thick sward of grass very heavy after playing on tlie keen surface of the bowling green, consequently no breaks were made. Good progress has been made with the New Plymouth tournament. Tbe weather on the whole has been fine, but cold, and the lawus have been in perfect condition. Tlie surprise "f the tournament was tbe defeat of tbe 1936 New Zealand women's champion. Airs. AA’. E. Caldow, by Airs. Ale Kay, Ifawera. wbo won a three-game rubber. Mrs. Caldow was also defeated in the first life of tbe women's championship by Mrs. Skret, New Plymouth. Players who have played exceedingly well all through the tournament are Airs.
