ESPERANTO CLUB

The weekly meeting of the Wellington Esperanto Club was held on Monday evening. Mr. Vernon J. Leek presided, ft was announced that Mr. John Merchant, an internationally famous Esperantist, had just passed away in England. Mr. Merchant was tbe author of several Esperanto works. -Tourist propaganda in Esperanto in the form of illustrated brochures in colour was received from Germany, Brazil, England. Czechoslovakia. Austria, France, and Hungary. Ollier correspondence was received from Wales. Albania, Denmark, aud Persia. The president announced that a picnic would be held at Plimmertoii on Sunday, .March 29. After the enrolling of new members the beginners’ class continued its study of Esperanto. The senior members spent the session in reading and translation. The second part of the evening consisted of a lantern lecture on ‘'Pitoreska Nfov-Zelnndo,” by Mr. Edgar Hornblow, who will leave next month on a tour around the world. The lecturer had'been provided with slides and cinematograph films by the Government Tourist Department, which would be used for an Esperanto lecture tour in eight or nine of tbe chief countries on the Continent. Tlie programme concluded with popular songs presented by Misses P, and R. Rees.
