Auckland, March 18. A general increase in yardings over the. previous week's sale was the feature of the fat stock market at Westfield to-day. The offering of cattle in particular showed a considerable increase, and the quality was well up to average. Although quotations maintained last week’s level, there was a slight easing on recent sales. Extra choice ox beef made 32/- per 1001 b.; choice and prime, 28/- to 31/-'; prime young cow and heifer beef, 27/to 29/-; other cow beef, 17/- to 24/-. Extra heavy prime steers, £l3 to £l4 12/6; heavy prime. £ll to £l2; lighter prime. £lo'to £lO/12/6; light prime, £8 15/- to £9/10/-; small and unfinished, £5 to £7/10/-; extra heavy prime young cows and heifers. £7/10/- to £B/15/-; heavy prime. £5/10/- to £O/10/-; lighter prime, £4/10/- to £5/5/-; other killable cows, £3 to £4. There was an unusually large yarding of calves and consequently prices eased considerably in this section, although there was' a fair demand for rougher sorts. Runners, 46/- to 110/-; vealers, 35/- to 75/-. Although the shop yardings were heavy there was a ready demand, and last week’s values for wethers was maintained, though there was an easing in prices in the ewe section. Wethers, prime 27/6 to 30/6: unfinished, 17/6 to 23/6; ewes, prime, 20/- to 26/-; unfinished, 9/6 to 17/6; lambs, prime, 22/- to 28/6; unfinished, 11/9 to 17/6. Fat pigs were again plentiful and there was a strong demand for all prime baconers, while porkers sold freely at fully late rates. The price per lb. for baconers ranged from s}d. to 5R1., while porkers realised s}d. to s|d. Baconers, 52/- to 67/-; porkers, 32/- to 47/-; large stores, 18/- to 26/-.
