TO SETTLE TRADE WAR
Bank Director’s Proposal In
Free State
MEETING ENGLISHMEN
( Received July 25, 10.5 p.m.)
Dublin, July 25.
In a Senate speech Mr, Andrew Jameson, director of tiie Bank of Ireland. proposed that a Free State commission, representative of all parties and business interests, should be appointed to meet a similar body of Englishmen to discuss a settlement of the Anglo-Free State trade war.
He emphasised that both countries would gain enormously from a mutual trade agreement and. for this reason, both should lie prepared to make valuable concessions. He believed that the British Government would give every assistance, but could not. be expected to make the first move. Mr. Sean McEntee, Finance Minister, was present, but did not comment on Mr. Jameson’s proposal, which crea-ted a stir among political parties. Tiie Government’s reply is awaited.
