Niagara and King Egbert
CAPTAINS NOT TO BLAME
Victoria, 8.C., July 24. After hearing In private Captain T. V. Hill, of the liner Niagara, and Captain Paul Graine, of the freighter King Egbert, the Wreck Commissioner, Captain L. 11. Lindsay, states that the collision between the two vessels was unavoidable and that neither captain was to blame.
The Niagara and the King Egbert came into collision in fog on the night of July 17 when 40 miles off Victoria, .the bows of both ships were damaged, but each reached port on the following morning under its own power. BOTH SHIPS DAMAGED Calmar and Koryu Maru San Francisco, July 24. With a hole 20ft. deep amidships on the starboard side the Calmar,, which was last night in collision with the Koryu Maru, was towed to San Francisco by the coastguard cutter Shawnee and two tugs. 'rhe Koryu Maru followed under her own steam. She appears to have been badly stove ia about the bow. The collision occurred in a dense fog. Both crews remained on board.
