In consequence of the Catholic Party's refusal to support Government economy measures, the guilder is facing a. crisis. The Netherlands Bank lost £7,000.000 in gold in the day. raising the rate to five per cent. Cabinet is postponing for 24 hours a decision as to whether it will resign or dissolve Parliament.

“The Times” city editor says that the weakness in the guilder spread to other gold currencies, necessitating the intervention of the Equalisation Fund. The belief that Holland will abandon the gold standard resulted in rises in Unilevers, Royal Dutch and similar international shares.
