Do Not Neglect Your Neck: Keep It Firm and White

How often one sees a well-cared-for face and a very neglected neck. This should not be; so care for your neck as you would you face, as necks so often give one’s age away. Therefore banish the tell-tale lines and flabbiness. The neck exercises are so simple, and do help to keep the muscles firm. Some people imagine that these exercises stretch the skin, but that is quite a wrong idea. Stand erect and turn the head from right to left; do this several times. Bend the head forward and then as far back as possible. Circle the head right round: do these exercises every morning. Don’t sleep with a high pillow, have your head as low as possible, and, of course, your window open. Then, with the correct neck treatment and care you will be amazed at the result. Quite the best treatment is patting. You can buy special little patters for this purpose, and very neat and useful they are; or you can make a patter with cotton wool, shape it and squeeze it out in cold water. You put a little astringent lotion on your patter and pat yoiTr neck briskly for a few minutes. Pat from the centre of your neck towards the back on both sides. This soon brings up the circulation and so helps the skin to absorb the cream. Get a good, rich cream if your neck is thin; otherwise a lighter skin food will suffice. Smooth the
cream in with an upward movement, and now cup your hand and pat the cream in. Always pat along the lines of the neck from the centre towards the back. It takes only a few minutes, and you will soon be encouraged by the distinct improvement in your neck. Should your neck be discoloured, get a good bleach cream and use instead of the skin food, as this cream nourishes as well as bleaches. Before the summer comes, do be sure to purchase a good protection cream or lotion, and use this generously on your neck and chest. If you wish your skin to look white at night, get one of the special neckpowders. The effect is lovely on a firm, well-cared-for neck. These neck powders can also be used on your arms with great advantage. Should your neck be too fat, get a good reducing lotiqn. Put a little on your patter and pat your neck as I have told you two or three times a day. Do not neglect the exercises during the reducing period, as they are most necessary to help the muscles. After reducing use an astringent lotion, as this helps to tighten the outer skin and has a lifting effect on the drooping muscles. You will be amazed at what you can accomplish in quite a short time, but do not slacken if you wish for lasting and successful results.
