VON CRAMM TOO GOOD
Fine Match With Allison DAVIS CUP ZONE FINAL London. July 22. The second singles in the inter-zone final of the Davis Cup competition at Wimbledon resulted': —■ G. von Cramm (Germany) defeated W. L. Allison (U.S.A.), 8-0. 0-3, 6-4. Both countries have now won one singles match. A terrific fight developed’ in the first set. The American led 3-1 and 4-2 and appointed to have the set in hand, when the German increased the pressure of Ills service and drives and won the set after every point had been fought out. in long rallies. The second set was a tamer affair. You Cramm was definitely superior all round, ami out-drove and outmanoeuvred Allison.
Allison struggled desperately in the third set, but a tendency to over-drive and double-fauit at. critical stages lost him chances. Allison’s occasional brilliance was no match for the German's steadier resourcefulness.
