ADDRESS ON RAILWAYS

Addresses on public speaking and on the New Zealand railways were given to members of the Wadestown and Highland Park Men’s Society. Wellington, recently by Mr. E. Casey, Assist-ant-General Manager of Railways. Mr. K. McDonald presided. Air. Casey described the organisation behind the efficient running of the railways in the Dominion, where there were 3200 miles of line, with an invested capital of £54,000.000. In 1934 the revenue was £6.000,000 and the expenditure £5.500,000. In that year 90.500,000 passengers had been carried, in addition to 6.000.000 tons of goods. Mr. Casey illustrated his remarks on public speaking by giving two short speeches on subjects suggested by his audience: “All Men Are Liars’ and “Brevity is the Soul of Wit.” During the evening musical Iteraa were given by Messrs. R- Hill and J. Withers, with Mr. B. Withers as accompanist.
