THE SOCIAL ROUND

Overseas League Bridge Party

Among the must delightful bridge parties held in Wellington, and there are a considerable number at this time of the year, are those which the Wellington branch of the Overseas League gives from time to time in the palm lounge of the Hotel St. George. Last evening it was very pleasant to walk in from the sharp frosty atmosphere out of doors to the warm luxury of the palm lounge, where the tables were arranged in comfortable fashion, with easy chairs and glowing radiators near bv. The palms swayed gracefully to contrast their dark silky green with the fresh cream walls, and here and there a splash of brighter colour was introduced with a vase of iceland poppies on the piano and a spreading bunch of cherry blossoiiis reflecting clusters of pink buds in a long mirror over which the red badge of the Overseas League held conspicuous place. Bridge was played in a particularly convivial atmosphere, and when supper was brought round to each table there was a cheerful hum of conversation for a while. The hostesses on this occasion were Mrs. W. S. Pearce and Mrs.. George Bassant, who were at the door to receive everyone 011 their arrival. Mrs. Pearce wore a gown of forest green crinkled satin with a shoulder posy of deep pink camellias, and Mrs. Bassant's black crepe suede frock had steel bead trimming round the armholes and wrists.
