SOCCER CONTROL

Meeting of Council Arrangements for primary school tournaments atid for representative mutches were made at the meeting yesterday afternoon of the Council of the New Zealand Football Association. The Taranit'ki association advised that a southern portion of the “North Island primary school tournament would be held on September 3, 4 and 5. Arrangements for grounds and billeting of players had been made, and it was expected that the tournament would be very suecesstul. The Canterbury association wrote that the .South Island tournament would be held at Christchurch. Entries had been received from Otago and Westland, and invitations had ibeen extended to Southland and Nelson. The council decided to make the usual grant of £2O toward the expenses of the tournament. 'The Canterbury association advised that the Canterbury-Wellington game had been arranged for July 27. The Buller association was prepared to consider a Chatham Cup match in Christchurch. The Westland association had not challenged for the cup. The Otago association would visit Christchurch on a date to be arrangThe Canterbury association stated that the Auckland association had been asked to send a representative team to play Wellington, Canterbury and Otago. 'The Otago association was in favour of the suggestion. The Canterbury association asked if the council would contribute to the cost of the tour. Several members emphasised that the council had budgeted up to the limit ot* it-s income, ahJ* it was decided to advise that the council could not make a grant. The Auckland' association asked for an interpretation of the rules governing the Football Association Trophy, as to whether it must accept lhe challenge from Canterbury, enlarging on its difficulty in fixing a suitable date because of the number of League, (Rugby and Association engagements in Auckland. Council members. after the rules stating that the competition had to be open to 'the four associations. subject to approval of matches by the council, directed the chairman ami secretary to draft a reply setting out 'this explanation. Mr. B. L. Salmon presided. 'I hose present were: Messrs. 11. D. Godber. M. Fraser. J. A. Milburn, A. E. Caisly, J. M. Ollier. F. .Saunders, 11. 11. A. Rentr.. and J. Y. Wales.
