Marked Increase In Imports
EXPORTS DECREASE
Favourable Balance Lower
The main features of the overseas trade returns of the Dominion, released yesterday by the Customs Department, are a substantial decline in the value of exports and a continued increase in imports, factors which go a long way in reducing fhe favourable balance of “visible” trade. The values stated below are all in New Zealand currency. Exports last mouth were fairly well maintained at £3,227.000, nlticli is only £OB,OOO below the figure for June, 1934, though it is £474.000 less than tliat lor.lune. 1933. Imports last month were valued at £2.350.000, an increase of £028.000, eontpitri'd with those for June. 1934. Exports for the six months ended June 30 were valued at £27,109.000. a failing-off of £4.389,000 compared with the corresponding period of last year, but an advance of £3.747.000 compared wilh the exports for tlie first six mouths of 1933. Ou the oilier hand imports for the six mouths ended June were valued at £1(>.7I8.OOO. an increase of nearly fj.000.000, compared with those for Hie first half of Inst year and over £4.000.000 ahead of tlio.se for Hie corresponding period of 1933. This decrease is largely accounted for by tlie lower prices of wool ami tlie greatly reduced exports of tin* staple. Imports for Hie twelve months ended June were valued at £31.302.000. an advance of £7.59’9.000 compared witli those for the preceding twelve months, and of over £9.000.000 on those for the year emled June 30. 1933.
