New Zealand Council By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, May 30. The annual meeting of the Council of the Royal Society of Njm Zealand was held to-day. A motion wag carried deeply deploring the irreparable loss sustained by science in the death of Dr. Cockayne. The Hector award was made to Dr. Benham, of Dunedin, for original research in New Zealand zoology. The Hutton award was macle to Dr. Cunningham, of I’almerston North, for work on New Zealand fungi. Fellowships were awarded Dr. Marwick, of Wellington, and Dr. Macleod, of Canterbury. It was announced that if would be possible to make the Sldey summer time awqrd next year. It was resolved to approach the Government to increase the present grant of £5OO.
