Athletic Championships ROWING REGATTA Followers of outdoor sports will have a wide choice of attractions to-day. Athletic Championships. The Wellington provincial amateur athletic championship meeting at the Basin Reserve will attract /300 of the leading athletes of the province, who will parade the ground at 2 o’clock. Then will follow hurdling, cycling and running events in quick succession. In addition to the leading athletes of the city clubs, teams from Wairarapa and Marlborough will compete. The first event will start at noon, and there will be a break from 1.15 to 1.40 for lunch. Rowing Regatta. Another important, event this afternoon will be the rowing regatta on Wellington harbour, in which 70 ciews and 200 oarsmen will compete for the honours. The programme will open at 1 o'clock. Cricket Championships. The Wellington Cricket Association will commence the seventh series of championship matches, the draw for the senior grade being; Wellington College Old Boys v. Wellington, on Kilbirnie Recreation Ground; University v. Midland, on Kelburn Park; Kilbirnie v. Petone, on Petone Oval; Hutt v. Institute, on Hutt Recreation Ground. The Wellington Mercantile Cricket League will continue its grade championship games, whtu the following matches will be decided in the A grade: Customs A v. Smith and Smith and Roseneath v. 'Bookers-Brick, on Athletic Park; Sargoods v. Overseas Shipping and Cowans v. State Fire, on Newtown Park; Niveus v. Jasco, on Wakefield Park. Lawn Tennis. The Wellington Lawn Tennis Association will continue its inter-club matches on the Miramar courts. Kilbirnie Speedway. Another attractive programme will be submitted at the Kilbirnie Speedway tonight. The noted dirt-track riders. Lionel Van Praag and Dick Case, will again be in action, and the latter will make an attempt to lower the track record. A feature of the attractive programme will be the international match race under test rules. The teams’ race between Petone and City also will be run. The programme will commence at S o'clock. Yachting. The Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club will hold handicap races this afternoon for first and second class keel yachts and for A and B class centreboard yachts. There will also be centreboarder races in Evans Bay. Rifle Shooting. ■ The Suburbs Defence Rifle Club will continue with the cbampioivirp;series at Trentham this afternoon, firing a double shoot at 800 yards to count for No. 4 series. The Old Navals club will fire a match at 800 yards this afternoon. Bowls. The chief event in bowls outside ttie competitions being held by each club will be the match for the Barnett Tiki, between the Wellington Bowling Centre and the Christchurch Bowling Centre, at the Wellington Club's greens to-day. Oue game will be pla.ved in the morning and one in the afternoob. CROQUET TOURNEY Foiir Finals Decided The Wellington croquet tournament was continued yesterday, the weather being line but dull. Four finals were decided. In the handicap doubles, .Mr. Veitch and Mrs. Sivyers defeated Mesdames Austis and Colquhoun. In the handicap singles, first section, Mr. Veitch defeated Mrs. Jarvie In the champion doubles. Mesdames Gilbert and Nottle defeated Mesdames Henderson and Hogan.
