RAINBOW OF THE NIGHT

An unusual natural phenomenon was witnessed last evening from Waiwetu when a band of White light in the form of a perfect arc stretched from the Point Howard wharf to a point on the hills near the spot at which the Wainui Road crosses the saddle. “I saw it first at 8 o’clock and thought it was a searchlight,” an observer told “The Dominion.” “It was a band of light about eight feet wide and could be seen very clearly. At 9 o’clock it was'plainer still, and I could see it was in the form of a rainbow—a white rainbow, very beautiful and most unusual in appearance. It could be seen then from end to end, rising in a curve several hundreds of feet up and coming to rest on the hill. It seemed to be caused by some curious reflection of the moon on the clouds or the mist. I have never seen anything like it before.”
