Shipping Disaster

(From "The Dominion,” February It, 1910.) The steel screw steamer General Chanzy, 2257 tons gross, a mailboat belonging to the Compangie Generate Transatlantique, running between Marseilles and Algiers, foundered on the north coast of the island of Minorca, in the Balearic group. There were 87 passengers and 47 crew aboard, chiefly French and Italians. There is only one survivor, named Morel. The Customs officials are unable to give an account of the disaster. The steamer was apparently caught in a violent northerly gale, and broke in two upon striking a reef.

Tlie ’'Daily Mail’s” St. Petersburg correspondent states that the Tsar is furious on account of the morganatic marriage of his brother (Grand Duke Michael) with a lady who had been thrice divorced.
