DUNEDIN MEETING
Semi-final Gallops on Wingatui Tracks WEATHER IDEAL By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, February 12. The weather conditions were.ideal for the semi-final gallops at Wingatui this morning. The centre of the course proper and the plough track were available for fast work, and the track proper next to the rails for the two-year-olds. Grand Finale and Travenna were sent six furlongs on the course proper. The former was going much better at the finish, the task taking him 1.20. Unless tracks are softer, and there does not appear to be much chance of this, Travenna is an unlikely starter at the meeting. Money Flies, the first visitor to arrive, was given a sprint over half a mile on the course proper, and moved well. The two-year-old Sunny Jean and Lady Leighton ran half a mile in 54. Lyeidas and Red Lance were companions over seven furlongs on the plough, and galloped well to cover the distance in 1.32 2-5. The former was going the better at the finish and is now very well. Dissemble beat Braw Lad over six furlongs on the plough in 1.19. Prince Tractor began slowly, but was finishing on strongly at the end of six furlongs in 1.2(1. Pain Melba and Blue Metal. The Dart filly in A. S. McKay’s stable beat Flout over five furlongs on the plough, the last half-mile iu 52 3-5. Paia Melbg and Blue Metal finished together over six furlongs on the same track, the last five furlongs in 64 2-5. The two-year-olds Jack Horner and Waltham took 54 1-5 to run half a mile next to the rails, and finished on eveu terms. Colonel Crawford effected a surprise by beating Morena over seven furlongs on the plough in 1.30. This is not Morena's true form. Latitude and Ramo were companions in a gallop over five furlongs in. 1.3 2-5. There was very little between them at the finish. Foreign Star, who is now carrying a much-improved appearance, and Gold Tax. were sprinted three furlongs along the back, both moving well. Kamal Pasha, with his trainer up, easily accounted for Meadow Lark over five furlongs in 1.3 4-5. This time could have been improved on by the former. The two-year-old Viking ran half a mile next to the rails in 51 2-5, finishing on strongly. Chhota. Linguist, and Umtali were companions over five furlongs. The lastnaniod was soon left behind, and Chhota beatTjiiiguist by a good head in 1.4 1-5. but appeared to'have a good deal in hand over the last furlong.
A large number were worked at from half to* three-quarter pace.
