BRAN AND POLLARD Strong Demand in Auckland Dominion Special ’"‘Service. Auckland, February 12. The special demand for milling ofl’als consequent upon the long spell of dry, hot weather has depleted local stocks and millers as well as merchants are having to supplement supplies with Australian pollard and southern bran. Pollard is virtually unobtainable from the eouth, but so far there is no difficulty in obtaining bran from the Canterbury mills.. The Australian market is a little firmer, but the price has not advanced sufficiently to interfere with business from this end. There is a fair demand for horse feed, 'with no change in quotations either for B Gartons or oaten sheaf chaff. The market for fowl wheat continues firm and local prices are moving upward. At presen the wholesale rate for grade# lilies is 5/6 to 5/8 a bushel. The Australian barley market has advanced, still further restricting business in that line. With a general shortage of local potatoc.s merchants have been importing from the Manawatu district, but the quality from that source is mixed and numerous rejections have been made. Local onions are still selling at about 12/6 a cental, but Canterbury-grown are now beginning to arrive and are available nt sligtly 1 at slightly lower prices.
