TWO LINERS TO-DAY
Makura and Monowai ■ Two liners bringing 430 passengers between them will berth at Wellington to-day. The Union Company’s R.M.S. Makura, en route from San Francisco via Papeete and Rarotonga arrived in the stream last evening and will berth at the Taranaki Street wharf about S a.m. to-day. The Makura brings 98 passengers and has 560 bags of mail and 40 parcel receptacles for Wellington. She is to leave at 3 p.m. to-mor-row for Sydney, where she is due next Saturday morning. The liner Monowai, from Melbourne and Sydney, has reported by wireless that she can be expected to arrive in the steam at 1 p.m. to-day. She will berth immediately at No. 1 south Queen’s wharf and her passengers should be free to leave here about. 2 O’clock. The Monowai brings one of the largest lists of inward passengers this season. 336, and has 129 bags of mail and 85 parcel receptacles for Wellington. A number of the Monowai’s passengers are booked through for her cruise. The vessel is to leave the wharf at 8 p.m. to-day and will anchor in the stream where a dance will be held on board. At 11 p.m. she will leave for Milford Sound, where she will arrive on Wednesday morning. After cruising in the Sound the Monowai will pay a visit to George Sound, and in the late afternoon will return to Milford and again enter that Sound to enable her passengers to see the wonderful view presented by, the sun setting on and behind the snow-capped peaks which surround the Sound. The Monowai is due back at Wellington on Friday morning and will leave that afternoon for Sydney and Melbourne.
