' New Zealand’s BattleCruiser (I’roq, •‘The Dominion,” August 23, 1009.) The so-called “inspired statement'’ cabled from London on August 19—to the effect that, under the arrangement entered into between Sir Joseph Ward and the Admiralty, the vessels to be contributed by the Dominion will not be Dreadnought®, but Cruisers, that they will form part of the Pacific Squadron, and will be employed in New Zealand waters for local defence —is declared to be incorrect. The Dreadnought will be attached, as the Admiral’s flagship, to the China Pacific Station. Occasional fleet visits will be inade to New Zealand. Reuter’s Ottawa correspondent states that official information is lacking regarding a report that Canada hns withdrawn from the proposed , Imperial Conference respecting cheaper cable services within the Empire. According to the report referred to. Canada desires delay, owing to the difficulty of reaching an agreement with the land companies, and the fact that a Commission is about to investigate tlie tolls charged by the companies. ♦ • » .
