WELFARE WORK

Island Bay W.C.T.U. Mrs. Mowlem presided over a fair attendance at the recent meeting of the Island Bay branch of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union, held in the I‘resbyterk'n Church Hall. Members were reminded of the district convention to be held at Carterton on September 5. Mrs. Connor sang two solos, “Husheen” and “My Task.” Mrs; Milner gave a talk on “The Seven Men of Preston,” a town in. which she had lived for some years. Other items of general interest were related, and a vote of thanks was accorded the speak-, er. Presbyterian ladies were hostesses, and “Bring aiid Buy” stall did brisk business.
