YORKSHIRE SOCIETY

Annual Ladies’ Night

The Yorkshire Society of New Zealand held its annual ladies’ night in the Farmers’ Institute conference hall recently, when the president, Mr. Karl Atkinson, welcomed 150 members and their friends to what proved to be an outstandingly successful gathering. The hall was artistically decorated by Mr. A. E. Caisl'ey, and the white rose was naturally much in evidence. A fine and varied programme was greatly enjoyed by all present, those contributing being: Miss Molly Atkinson, Messrs. Roy Hill and M. Cacheinaille, songs; Mrs. Margaret Macpherson, talk on a Yorkshirewoman’s impressions on revisiting her native country; and a one-act dialect play-reading, “Lonesome Like,” by Mr. and Mrs. Victor Lloyd; and Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Render. Miss Catherine Moncrieffi was an efficient accompanist.

Mr. E. Bold gave an amusing dialect reading. Dialect songs and humourous sketches were presented by means of gramophone records by John Henry and “Blossom,” Sandy POwcll and Company, Stuart Robertson and Ernest Butcher, and caused much amusement. Christmas hymns were sung by nil the company. Supper brought a memorable evening, to a close.
