STATE THEATRE

Opening on Boxing Night DESIGNED ON NEW PLAN With J. B. Priestley’s “The Good Companions” as the attraction, the new State Theatre will open on Boxing Night. The theatre has been designed in the latest American style, and includes several new features. It is a one-floor theatre, There, will be no dress circle, but at the rear will be boxes to accommodate 72 persons. It will be the first theatre of this design in New Zealand. The walls have been made absolutely soundproof, so as to prevent echoes, and it will be the first theatre in Wellington to have this treatment, which is something quite new in projection engineering. Beautiful indirect lighting effects have been planned, and the latest types of projection machinery have been installed. The State Theatre is Amalgamated Theatres’ first Wellington venture. 1
