CITY COUNCIL

Two Ex-Members Defeatei PRELIMINARY COUNT The preliminary count for the We lington City Council late last nigh showed that 11 members of the previou council have apparently been re-elecl ed. Two old councillors are not in th first fifteen for the council. Eight o file candidates supported by the Civi ' League and Ratepayers’ Associatloi seem to have been successful, and als in the list for the new council are fou Labour candidates and three independ ent candidates. The poll is headed by a Labour can didate, Mr. C. H. Chapman, his twi party associates on the last council Mr. R. McKeen and Mr. R. Semple, fill ing second and third places respective ly. Mr. W. J. Gaudin is fourth. Tin only members of the last council to b< defeated were Mr. S. Holm and Mr. J N. Wallace. .New councillors are Mr M. F. Luckie, Mr. L. W. Mackenzie, Mr T. Brindle and Mr. R. L. Macalister and with the exception of Mr. Brindle who contested the election as a repre sentative of Labour, all were on the combined Ratepayers’ Association and Civic League ticket. When the declaration votes are counted and the informal votes adjudicated on it is possible that the last few positions in the personnel of the council might be altered.
