Coinage Disappearing from Circulation in Country BANKS SAID TO BE PUZZLED By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, April 30. .Mysteriously, yet appreciably, silver coinage is disappearing J 1 ’ 0 ’” circulation in New Zealand, and the banks in Dunedin are dealing wiln diminished supplies. “Where the silver is going to we cannot say—but it is disappearing, said a lending bank manager yesterday., ine disappearance is universal. ne are keeping a close watch on the flow of coinage, but are unable to trace the No legitimate requests for coinage had been declined, and business had not been impeded by any restriction of issue of silver coins. However, when the banks were suspicious that demands for silver were being made with intent to deplete the currency in the Dominion the demands would be thoroughly investigated. There was no immediate shortage of coinage, and the manager gave an assurance that business would not be impeded by a lack of silver currency on issue from the banks.
