Massy Greene, Assistant Treasurer for the Commonwealth of Australia, and has extended congratulations to the Kight Hon. J. G. Coates, Minister of Customs, and the Hon. R. Masters, Minister of Industries and Commerce, who negotiated the agreement with the Australian Delegation,’’ said the Prime Minister, tiie lion. G. MForbes, in a statement issued late last night. “It is believed,” said Mr. Forbes, "That the discussions which -have taken place and the agreement which has been reached will have the effect of removing many misunderstandings which have arisen, and of improving trade between the two countries to the mutual benefit of both. The provisional agreement has been approved by the Governments of Australia and New Zealand, but cannot be brought into force until it is ratified by both Parliaments. “As the New Zealand Parliament will not meet for some months trade between the two countries must in the meantime be carried on subject to the existing agreement. Negotiations are still taking place respecting certain questions, including those concerning embargoes on potatoes and fresh fruit in Australia and New Zealand respectively.”
