DANISH KETCH REPAIRS The Danish ketch Monsunen, which has been on the Patent Slip for repairs, moved back to No. 8 Queen’s Wharf yesterday morning. The ketch, which put into Wellington leaking badly, while on a cruise round the world, was found to have been badly strained. Two new planks had to be fitted, and caulking was necessary, especially along the keel. The Monsunen will probably remain in port until January 15, as her owner and master, Captain Knud Andersen, a well-known author of sea stories, wishes to give one or two further lectures before leaving Wellington. When she leaves here the Monsunen will proceed to Denmark, via Cape Horn. Missing Miner Located. The missing miner, Thomas Hughes, who left Brunnerton on December 24, has been located at Kokatahi. Westland, states a Press Association message from Greymouth. Mudfish Conservation. Fifteen adult mudfish and a number of larval specimens were liberated this week in a stream in the Otari Plant Museum. The fish were caught in springs at Masterton and their liberation in the Otari Plant Museum is part of the effort which is being made, to preserve all fresh water fiA'i that were indigenous to New Zealand at the time of white colonisation. Gold in a Penny. A curious . ml rather valuable penny has recently come into the possession of a Wanganui jeweller. It was so bright that he tested it. and found a large proportion of gold. Then he remembered that in 1920 a large bar of gold accidentally fell into a vat of copper. from which pennies were being made. Most of them were recalled when the mistake was discovered, but this one found its way to New Zealand.
