Good Fishing Obtained BUSH DISTRICT RIVERS Dominion Special Service. Masterton, Jan. 6. The opinion that the'fishing in the rivers of the Bush district was equal to that obtainable anywhere in New Zealand was expressed by Mr. R. H. Nimrao, of Wellington, at the conclusion of five successful days’ fishing in the district. On the first day Mr. Nimrao captured the limit of fifteen fish. The following day he visited the Makuri River in company with Mr. A. Pratt and again caught the limit.- Fishing the Manawatu,-which was a little dirty, on the third day, Mr. Nimmo landed twelve fish. It was a good bag, the twelve fish,, when gutted, weighing 241 b. Mr. Nimmo fished the Makakahi River on the fourth day and .again i-eturned with a limit bag. . On his final day he again visifcd. the Makakahi and in 24 hours had caught a splendid bag. One settler considered it the best, bag he had ever seen caught, in local rivers. ■» Flounder Spearing. Flounder spearing at the Wairarapa ’ Lake Domain Reserve has been a popular sport during the holidays. Some good catches have been reported. Final of Bowling Tourney. In tbe final of the Masterton Bowling Club’s Christmas tournament, played yesterday afternoon, Taylor (s.) defeated Perry (s.), 23—22, after an interesting and keenly-contested gamp. Burglaries at Carterton. Three residences in Carterton were broken into on Tuesday afternoon, but nothing of great value was taken. In one case a small sum of money was stolen and in the other a few articles were removed. Two of the houses concerned are in Kent Street and the other in High Street. White Butterflies Increasing; Until this summer the Eketahuna district has been fairly free from the white butterfly, but it appears that the pest is now definitely on the increase as a number of specimens have been seen in the district recently. Tauherenikau Holiday Camp. The holiday camp for sons of Masterton relief workers will open at Tauherenikau racecourse on Monday next. The full complement of boys at the camp wul be 33 and there are still one or , two ; vacancies. Mr. A. E. Bate, general secretary of the local Y.M.0.A., will be m charge of the camp. Visiting Clergymen. ; Two visiting Methodist clergymen will preach at Masterton on Sunday. Tbe ■ services at Kuripuni Church will be con- , ducted by the Rev. Tom Carr, of the Timaru circuit, while the Rev. E. O. Blamires’s pulpits will be occupied by the Rev. G. S. Cook, of Otaki. Mr. Cook will preach at Masterton in the morning and evening, and at Rangitcmau in the afternoon. Cricket at Eketahuna. : The bowlers proved too strong for the i batsmen in a cricket match between teams representing the Druids and Oddfellows’ Lodges of Eketahuna. The match was won by Druids by 40 runs. Druids batted first and scored 60, to which total O’Regan contributed 35. In. the second innings Druids scored 43. O’Regan (15) was again top scorer. Oddfellows were dismissed for 35 (Allah 11) and 28. Bowling for Druids, Hornblow put up a creditable performance, taking all ten wickets at a cost of nine runs in Oddfellows’ first -innings. In the second knock the same bowler secured four wickets for 8 runs and Worthington took six for 14. Of the Oddfellows’ trundlers, • J. Cooper met with considerable success, securing seven, wickets for 32 runs/n the first innings and eight for 27 in the second. CRICKET MATCHES Feilding Association Fixtures Feilding, Jan. 6.
