ARLISS AS VOLTAIRE
T'HE next part which. Mr. , George Arliss is to play in a film of .Warner Brothers.is that of Voltaire. .The suggestion is his own, and its acceptance has been followed by an arrangement with Mr. Paul Green to write a scenario based on the life of Voltaire. Production will have to be delayed until after two other films, with Mr. Arliss as the “star,” have been, completed. These are “The' King’s Vacation,” the story of which has been written by Mr. Ernest, Pascal, and “The Adopted Father,” a screen version of Mr. Edgar Franklin’s novel.
The new interest, in classical subjects and figures, which has .been imported hito.the film business .by the arrival of well-known stage artists, appears now to be accompanied by .the realisation that action is of greater importance than dialogue in the average film. With this view orders have been given by Mr. Carl Laemmle, junr., of Universal Pictures, Limited, for. the volume of dialogue in that company’s future films to be reduced by one-quarter.
