Salvation Army Relief
Sir.—Brigadier Macauley, of the Salvation Army headquarters, in reply to my letter of December 27, has asked me to come out from behind my nqm de plume and give my name, but did he pause to think that while it is my duty to bring any such complaint to the notice of those who subscribe to these institutions, namely the public, that the publication of my name might cause embarrassment io me, for though I am down and out at present I. still, possess a certain degree of self-conseiousness. However, I am quite willing to meet Brigadier Maeauley at any time and anywhere if he is prepared to do so. I wish to make it clear that I have no complaint to make against the Brigadier as I am sure he will give me justice, but he has evidently been seriously misled, ns the statements 1 made can be substantiated fully. If my word, and that of the old gentleman’s who was turned away cu Christmas night is not sufficient, perhaps the word of a local police officer will be helpful. Also I can name at least eight other men in this town who have been treated as I have, and they, in the majority, are young men who do not drink or even enter hotels. Once again, Sir. I must thank you for the interest and trouble you have taken over this matter, and I assure you there are many like myself who appreciate it deeply.—l am. etc.. UNEMPLOYED ’ YOUTH. Wellington. Jan. 4.
