In the upper part of the Valley camping, grounds are many and varied, and full advantage of them has been taken by motorists. 1 A popular spot has been Manor Park camping grounds on the Haywards side of the Hutt River, just beyond the overhead railway bridge. There, conditions are almost ideal, and many tents have been pitched there over the week-end. . Verdant native bush covers the hills at the rear, and the site is a stone’s throw from the river. Close by are large fields which are admirably suited for the playing of. games. One camp, which attracted much, attention,, was established a short distance up from the traffic bridge at Silverstream in the row of willows which border the river. The tent was no more than twenty feet from the road, and the motorist’s eye was drawn by the colourful array of camping utensils draped on the trees. lii an open space nearby several caravans made a picturesque setting against a background of. willows. The natural camping facilities surrounding the Moonshine Bridge have also attracted many campers, and the native trees at the back of the river are studded with tents.
