BIBLE SOCIETY MEETING

Te Aro Branch Activity The annual meeting of the Te Aro branch of the Bible Society took place at the residence of Mrs. T. B. Strong in Thompson Street. The organising secretary gave a brief review of the annual meeting held in London last May, mentioning that over 104 million copies of Holy Scripture had been placed in the hands of the peoples of the world, also that the Gospel had been printed in eleven fresh languages. In some of the countries of Central Europe, where present distresses are at the maximum, the sales diminished, but many who are suffering purchased bibles. The speaker was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Mrs. Strong was unanimously elected president, and in responding spoke of the wonderful work of the translators, and what it meant to the peoples of the world.

Miss Beeves was re-elected secretary, and a high tribute was paid to her for past work as secretary and collector. Mrs. Cullen was elected vice-president. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Sister Maud for her tireless energy and faithfulness in collecting. All present adjourned to the dining room, where a dainty and delicious tea was dispensed by the president
