SLEEPER AROUSED
Voices in Gardens DETECTION OF THIEVES Dominion Special Service. Wanganui, March 23. Pleading guilty in the Police Court to-day to breaking and entering the premises of Nancarrow, Ltd., and theft of liquor valued at £3l/7/-, Eugeen Charles McCarthy and Cecil Hoskyn were committed for sentence at Wellington. Norman Murray, in evidence, said fie was awakened it 4 a.m. by voices in Cook’s Gardens, and at 7.30 ho looked over the fence and saw boxes covered with sacks. Later two men came with a lorry, but noticing witness went away.
Arthur Bergen gaicl lie took the lorry number and traced it ’to Castlecliff. Two men dressed the same as accused were in it.
"Detective J. Murray, on being informed, located, accused at. Castlecliff and brought them to the station. Both made statements admitting the theft. The bench congratulated Messrs. Bergen and Murray in the assistance they bad given the police.
