FINGERS AMPUTATED
Accident at Aerodrome STRUCK BY PROPELLER Dominion Special Service. Auckland, February 8. As -he was reaching for an apple resting on the wing ol’ a Gipsy Moth aeroplane at Mangere Aerodrome, Mr. R. J. Copley, ground engineer to the Auckland Aero Club, met with a serious accident to his left hand, which was struck by the whirling propeller. Three fingers were severely injured, and were later amputated. Mr. Copley had just wheeled out the machine from its hangar and had swung the propeller; the engine started, and as Mr. Copley stretched out his hand to get an apple he had placed on the wing he misjudged the distance and was struck. He was admitted to hospital, where an operation was performed.
