FANCY DRESS PARTY
A. happy party was held in the Wai-nul-o-mata Hall, when parents and friends were entertained by the schoolchildren. Fancy dress was worn, the costumes being original and pretty. The prize-winners were: Seniors: Ethel Drummon, “Powder and Patches” (prettiest costume), and Edward Rattray (most original). Juniors: Constance Rattray, “The Land of-the Midnight Sun.” and Victor Rattray. Zulu, the baby prize going to Margaret Wood (Early Victorian) and Patricia White (Eastern). The pupils delighted the audience with very charming folk dances and choruses, while,-the infant class portrayed “The Baby Show” in an entertaining manner, Clara Stevens, Joan and Peggy Burden, and Betty Jones as the mothers, and Victor Rattray as the judge. A canoe song rendered in Maori by the pupils and a poi dance by the seniors were much appreciated. Games followed these items, after which the pupils paraded in the grand march. a . Mr. Burden, chairman of the committee, proposed a hearty vote of thanks to Mrs. Baskette, headmistress, for the entertainment. . The prizes gained in the recent proficiency examination were presented, Mr. Burden stating that the nine pupils who sat had all gained their certificates. Dr. and Mrs. E. Kid Son will return to Wellington from England by the Rangitane, which is due on December .23. Miss M. A. Elworthy, Timaru, returned by the Rotorua from England on Sunday.
